I snuck in a short blog post on you guys last night, sorry to those of you who showed up yesterday to NOTHING NEW on SSG. (SSG hangs her head in shame.)
BUT! Today I'm instituting a new Friday and Weekend thang around these parts. Do you guys read The Frugal Girl? I love her and the sweet, thoughtful way she goes about raising her family. She makes it look SO EASY. I highly recommend her site if you're looking for ways to budget and tips for saving. And SHE MAKES HER OWN BREAD. SSG bows down to the woman.
Anyhoo! She started doing a Friday food waste photo as she was trying to cut back on the amount of food she threw away.
SSG had a similar problem ... until she instituted her $40 er $50 a week budget for food. So in an effort to hold herself accountable and share any tips she comes across, voila.
Welcome to mah first Food Waste Friday post.
These bananas are actually going to be used, but confession. I threw away two lowly, shriveled up carrots last night before photographing them. Had I given it any thought I could have just peeled and shredded them and threw them in the muffins that I'll be using these babies for this weekend.
Coming up this weekend, SSG's grocery list for a $40 er $50 week and what ah'll be cookin'.
Off to work. SSG said she'd be there early ... which really now means 1/2 hour later than she usually is but since her boss doesn't come in until 9 a.m. ... tree falling in the forrest and all that.
You won't tell on SSG, will you?
Smoochies,

We should start a blog called The Single Kitchen! It's so hard to use everything up before it goes bad or you get so tired of it you could cheerfully hurl it at your neighbor.
So, I'm trying to be inspired and not totally intimidated by your frugal savvy...but intimidated is winning!
Ohhh, so glad to have you participating!
Off to add you to my blogroll. :)
I am ashamed to admit how much food with throw away- even though the Fella believes in eating everything and wasting nothing. I think he almosted left me the ONE time I left the doggie bag at the restaurant. You teach me how to be less wasteful and perhaps I will share with you that I am the coupon queen! There is a binder, that's all I am sayin.
I can't type...
we not with
almost not almosted- although I sort of like that one
Well done; that's a great result. I too throw things away and then think I could have used them in baking.
Never mind about the carrots. Do you have a compost heap to donate them to?
Best of luck with next week! And enjoy those bananas!
I've been blogging about my $35/week food budget for a few weeks now. I'd love to see what new and interesting things you come up with!
I am terrible about wasting food. I need an intervention.
Woody, you should come join us over at my blog! You take a picture of your waste each week and post it on your blog. And then you come to my blog and link us up to your post. It's very motivating to know that your readers will be seeing your waste each week.
